On Sunday, March 15, Metro Manila will officially be under a "community quarantine" until April 14 to limit the spread of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the country.

Mass gatherings, whether "planned or spontaneous events where the number of people attending...could strain the planning and response resources of the city or municipality," are banned during the community quarantine. The government has imposed strict social distancing measures to reduce the number of new COVID-19 cases.

Unfortunately, this leaves many soon-to-weds with a dilemma: Should they push through with their wedding or cancel it?

As of writing, there are no specific guidelines for weddings given by the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) on COVID-19.

However, as reported by ABS-CBN, Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles and Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez have aired out their thoughts on nuptials, advising couples to either delay their "I Dos" or at least cut down their wedding guest list.

Hindi ho mapipigilan ang pag-ibig. Bawasan na lang nila ‘yong guests… makakatipid pa sila,” Lopez suggested.

“An informal estimate would be 50 guests, but it really depends on the size of the room,” Nograles said. “Siyempre sa wedding, paano magki-kiss ang couple? Paano ang distansya ng couple? Ang daming adjustments na kailangang gawin."

The officials also noted that couples, who have already paid for their reservation fees at hotels, should expect to be refunded. Dapat ho may refund, kasi force majeure po ‘yon,” Lopez stressed. Otherwise, couples can file a complaint to the Department of Trade and Industry (DIT) through its hotline 1384.
