Nothing speaks more of love than the sight of a happy couple quietly sitting next to each other and sharing a moment of comfortable silence. These simple intimate moments caught candidly remind us of the value of companionship and partnership--things that Marty Ilagan of Kasal Galeria captures through photos and videos.
Being a sportsman and a photography enthusiast, Marty Ilagan has been trained to capture candid shots even at an early age. His interest for sports, mixed with his passion for photography, opened up several opportunities for him to practice and further hone his skills. "I started [with photography by] taking [pictures of] landscapes--mostly of golf courses. It was during the digital revolution (mid 2004) that gave me the opportunity to discover more as I started being commissioned to take images for golf clubs and sporting events."
As he worked on his craft, Marty started to challenge the bounds of what he was used to doing. When his wife and sister in law decided to put up their own brand of clothing line, he ventured into fashion and wedding coverage, naming his business Kasal Galeria by Marty Ilagan. The photojournalistic style of Kasal Galeria by Marty Ilagan is suitable for weddings, as it is in such occasions that photographers must be ready to capture special moments right on cue.
Marty and his team prefer to discuss concepts with the couple first before the prenuptial session or wedding day shoot. According to the team, it's important to brainstorm first and discuss the details and themes of the wedding so they can do the task at hand efficiently. To enhance their clients' concepts, the team works with a stylist on the day of the shoot to facilitate the preparations.
The people behind Kasal Galeria update their techniques through engaging themselves in social media, and studying the works of other professionals. Marty added, "There are always inspiring images and clips from other photographers and videographers [on Youtube and social networking sites,] but I make sure others' work should only be an inspiration, and we try to develop our own style from [what we've seen]."
Marty envisions an exciting future for Kasal Galeria. He shares, "It has always been a dream to have our own production house, to have a full studio of themes so that [we don't always have to] go on location--something like a mini Universal Studios." With the team's patience and hard work, that dream will surely be within their reach.
