Some photographers start out early - having been bitten by the photography bug during their adolescent years - and decide from then on that this was what they solely wanted to do for a living. Others may have been pursuing a different endeavor, was bitten by the bug and decided it can go hand in hand with their day job.
For Eugene Martinez, it was the latter. An MBA degree-holder, Eugene started out as a businessman, eventually becoming the president of a bag manufacturing company. His affair with photography started in November of 2008 when he owned his first DSLR. From then on, he pursued both his passion for photography and his interest in the world of business.
From the moment he became an enthusiast, Eugene resolved to further his skills in photography. He attended various classes from different photography schools and workshops and got his first photography award from his Advanced Photography Workshop in FPPF. He was the Overall Winner in five categories in their class photo contest. He practiced Commercial Portrait Studio Photography, Advanced Photography, Wedding Photography and Video Production and became adept in Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premier and Adobe Dreamweaver.
After Eugene got married in October of 2009, wedding photography piqued his interest. "Weddings are a celebration of friendship, family reunion, forgiveness, acceptance, and of course love to each and everyone involved," Eugene shares. "You can imagine the amount of emotions you can capture the entire day, which inspires me to capture moments." Seeing great challenge in this field as it requires deep knowledge in almost all aspects of photography, he attended workshops of Lito Sy and Hothouse of Metrophoto, and started working with Top Photographers like Lito Sy and Nelwin Uy.
Asked to describe his style of photography, Eugene relays, "I am very versatile when it comes to style, but I always go for the natural look of every image. I adapt my shooting style on the couple's personality, location, and the wedding or prenup theme/concept." Eugene starts his preparations prior to a client's wedding by doing a location ocular to scout for the best spots. He also studies new poses, new techniques and most importantly he says, he tries to get to know more about the couple. "I sincerely love wedding photography. I treat every wedding shoot as my own wedding," he says.
Looking to the future, Eugene sees himself shooting weddings abroad, shooting more celebrity weddings and working with the best suppliers in the country. To achieve that, he furthers his craft in photography by investing in high-end gear and attending the best workshops/seminars for continued learning. "I want to give my clients the best quality in images and a tasteful creativity a wedding photographer can give in every shoot," Eugene stresses.
Already a successful entrepreneur, and now an up-and-coming photographer, Eugene Martinez seeks to be the best in both of his chosen worlds.
