Native fans or abanicos are a simple and inexpensive way to keep your guests cool at your wedding ceremony or reception and serves as a canvas which you can personalize to match the mood of the affair.

Fastening colorful and textured ribbons are enough to tie it in with the theme, but you can also use a design, an element, or even your monogram to jazz up your fans. Think stenciling or silkscreening will cost a pretty penny? DIY it instead!

Tips:

  • Use the letters in both your names as the design--one letter per fan. Ask guests to spell out your names or other words or messages they can think of then have them pose for a picture.
  • Don't stop at abanicos! For Filipiniana-themed weddings, use the same procedure on bayongs, which you can hand out to guests as welcome kits or souvenirs.

You don't have to be an artist to pull off this project. But be warned that it may be a bit time-consuming. So instead of doing it alone, why not ask the help of friends and family and have yourself a "painting party"--not only do you get to bond, you'll be sure to get the job done in no time.
