ARTICLE_spend_or_save.jpgLet's face it: we women are born with a shopping streak in our DNAs. Set us loose in a mall, and we will never go bored, thanks to the multitude of boutiques to visit. Bring us to the tiangges in Greenhills, and we'll haggle like there's no tomorrow. And mid-year sales? Every woman's dream! After all, who can resist yet another pair of black pumps when they're 70 percent off?

But there's a difference between buying bargain pieces in a heartbeat and making wise buying choices. Shopping without thinking your purchases through can result in a wardrobe that's bursting at the seams with pieces you might only wear once (or even never at all!), things that will fall apart after one wash, and items that will quickly go out of style. This also applies to purchasing basic clothing articles—which should stand the test of time and which need to be replaced every couple of months?

To help you out on your next shopping trip, we've listed over 20 key closet items and whether you should splurge or scrimp on each. Use these tips as guidelines, and you're well on your way to becoming a savvy shopper who won't be easily swayed.

I can totally relate! My grandparents live in the South so every weekend we visit them. Usually when we want to go shopping to kill time we'd go back to Makati/Alabang. Hassle! But now with the new SM Southmall we don't have to. Last weekend, my sister and I went shopping and ransacked the whole store! I also died because of the new accessories in Accessorize! Totally worth every penny! :)
