Nov 24, 2008 by FN's Shar Bareng

dollars.jpg* Even with the global economic turmoil, financial services firm JP Morgan says the Philippines has room for economic growth in 2009 based on this year's forecast, especially with dollar remittances keeping the economy afloat.

* It may be wise to stick to your jobs for now, as big companies may freeze hiring in the first quarter of 2009.

* Christmas this year may be the bleakest for business since 2001.

* Oil prices fell to a three-year low at $48.47 a barrel, the lowest since May 18, 2005 (AP).

* Good news: inflation rate is not likely to rise anytime soon, as money-supply growth returns to double-digit territory.
