Good news: there is hope for Filipinos who have lost their jobs because of the recession.

For one, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) announced that it would allocate P2.6 billion for 157,000 scholars of technical and vocational short courses and skills training. Inquirer.net reports that TESDA will prioritize overseas Filipino workers and locally employed Filipinos who have lost their jobs.
The budget will cover courses that last for one-and-a-half to three months, which include commercial cooking, welding, business process outsourcing (BPO), and aircraft maintenance. Anyone interested to avail of these scholarships can simply submit their birth certificates and high school diplomas to TESDA regional and provincial offices.
Furthermore, those who aim to be part of the BPO sector also have reason to hope for more opportunities as firms are expected to hire 90,000 workers this year. According to a report by BusinessMirror, this is due to improvements in the outsourcing industry despite other countries’ economic difficulties.
BPO hiring will be spread out in 30 cities, including Manila, Cebu, Cagayan de Oro, Davao, Iloilo, Bacolod, Pampanga Central, Lipa City, Bulacan Central (Baliwag, Marilao, and Meycauayan), and South Bulacan (Malolos and Calumpit).
