While 2008 has been a challenging year for most of us, Inquirer reports that a good number of Filipinos believe the country is far from being hopeless.

In a survey conducted by Pulse Asia Inc. from October 14 to 27, 68 respondents disagreed with the statement that the country is hopeless, while 13 percent agreed and 18 percent remained undecided. The survey also showed that five out of ten Filipinos would rather stay in the country than migrate, even if they had the opportunity to do so.
2008 was a roller coaster year for the Philippine economy as the country was affected by the global economic crisis, too. While inflation reached its highest in 14 years, the peso also plummeted to its lowest in ten months. We griped, not only because of the gas price hike, but also because of the rice crisis in the middle of the year. Still, we had our share of good news, and results of this Pulse Asia survey showed we're still optimistic about our prospects.
Looking back, would you say that 2008 had been a good year for you? And would you agree that the country is not entirely hopeless had you been a respondent in the survey?
