Can your credit card company help lower your debt?

Jun 26, 2008 by FN's Shar Bareng

creditcard.jpgLendingTree.com's ad has got to be one of the funniest commercials in Youtube. In the commercial, a guy shows off his perfect family, his beautiful house, his new car, and even his membership to a golf club, but with a catch: "I'm in debt up to my eyeballs!"

That's where the website's way of lowering debts comes in: They offer loans by using a client's home equity loan or by refinancing their mortgage. The lesson? There may be options to help lower your card debts, and there's no harm in asking. So when you're applying for your credit card, be sure to ask the company if they offer such options so you won't just rely on zero interest promos. And of course, it always pays to keep charging below your means--or maybe a little above, if you can't help it, but try to control yourself from aiming too high.

In the meantime, check out the video for a bit of a laugh!
