What comes for a Pinay after scaling Mt. Everest?

Oct 3, 2008 by FN's Shar Bareng

carina.jpgAfter conquering Mt. Everest, what more can an athletic woman do? If you ask Carina Dayondon, she'll answer that there definitely is so much more.

The Bukidnon native, who was among the first Filipino women to scale Mt. Everest last year, has always loved the outdoors and extreme sports. This year, Carina brought honor to the country and consequently added another feather to her cap when she won first place in the Women's Foreigner Category of the Tenzing Hillary Everest international marathon hosted by Nepal, where participants had to run through Mt. Everest’s rocky terrain, high altitude, cliffs, drops, ice cold rivers, and steep inclines--racing 17,149 feet above sea level.

If you're wondering what gear Carina was sporting throughout this rigorous marathon, she lets us in on one of her secrets--her Merrell shoes. "If you're comfortable with your shoes, confident ka sa running. Buo ang apak mo, because you're not afraid na madulas, you won't get blisters or injuries," she said.

Comfort, of course, is important in every kind of sport, especially in dangerous environments such as the ocean and mountain tops, so be sure your sports gear is always built for comfort and ease. With that in mind, we're still on the watch for more feats that Carina is sure to have in the future.
