If you depend on Vitamin C to prevent or cure your colds, you're in for some good news.
Apparently, the vitamin considered as solid defense for colds can also be a powerful weapon against certain cancers. U.S. government scientists recently found through an experiment that Vitamin C slowed tumor growth, particularly brain, ovarian, and pancreatic tumors.
Within days, such tumors slowed by at least 53 percent after injections of super-high doses. Vitamin C seemed to work better against brain tumors, as the same dosage stopped the disease from spreading. While it seems to be a breakthrough, it seems there's still a lot of work to be done.
"This is encouraging work but it's at a very early stage," said Dr Alison Ross of Cancer Research UK. "More research is needed before we'll know whether Vitamin C could be a viable cancer treatment."
Nonetheless, it is still a good idea to take Vitamin C tablets daily now. Often eat fruits that are rich in it, too, and not just when you think you're coming down with the flu.
