The New Vitamin C

Jun 11, 2008 by FN Blogger Kissa CastaƱeda

kissa_citrulline.jpgIn the Japanese drink market, variety is the name of the game. On the racks they have millions of products ranging from the normal diet teas to more unique ones like collagen-infused water and softdrinks with jelly.

It's no surprise that they came up with another kind of water, and this time it's packed with Citrulline. Citrulline is an amino acid usually found in watermelons, which can improve circulation and help increase nitric oxide levels. Simply, it's a thirst quencher targetted to active people.

I sampled Asahi's Citrulline water and interestingly, it didn't have any trace of its watermelon origins. Instead, it just tasted like the usual lemon water that restaurants serve. I don't know if this trend will fly off the shelves, but I realized that even in the crowded Japanese drink market, there's still place to introduce something new.
