In preparation for the flu season, the Organisasyon ng Kababaihan ng Muntinlupa (OK!) and GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) Philippines signed a Memorandum of Agreement to provide free anti-influenza vaccinations for 4,200 women employed by Muntinlupa's city government office and the city's public school teachers. Influenza is one of the most common diseases affecting a large portion of the city's population every year.

"Preventive health care is a priority project of the city," said Dr. Amy Patdu-Labios of the Office of the City Counselor. "With the rising cost of treatment, we believe that vaccinating our constituents against the flu can ensure the health and welfare of our citizens and maintain the quality of service of our government personnel."
"The normal absence of an employee when she gets sick is one or two weeks," adds OK! Muntinlupa Chair Leah Tejada-San Pedro. “Women are more likely to pass on the disease to family members because most of them continue to perform their tasks at home despite being sick. Through this vaccination project, we aim to prevent the onset and spread of this highly infectious disease, minimize absenteeism and productivity loss, and enhance the overall quality of life of our female employees.”
The local government is also working on making this move an annual initiative and eventualy extend the vaccination to all government employees.
While flu is easily cured, it's still best to take preventive measures by getting an annual vaccination.
