Gym alternative: Wii Fit

Jul 1, 2008 by FN's Shar Bareng

The nice thing about Nintendo Wii, other than the fact that it lets you live your tennis moves a la Maria Sharapova or maybe even those Rafael Nadal flexes, is that it can also give you muscle exercises if going to the gym is not convenient for you. Plus, they've developed a new game especially designed for your fitness program.

I'm pretty sure most of you used to work up a sweat with Dance Dance Revolution before, but the new Wii Fit (released in the US and UK in April and May 2008), is more dedicated to the weight loss and physical fitness objective. This exercise game even measures your weight and center of gravity and compares the users' fitness. It offers 40 different activities, such as yoga, aerobics, push-ups, and even tightrope walking!

Curious about how it works? Check out this video of Entertainment Weekly's Michael Slezak and Annie Barett trying out the game

Groundbreaking though it may be, Wii Fit still won't guarantee successful results, especially since the workouts only last a few minutes. Still, if you've no time to go to the gym, this would be pretty convenient, and you can play as much as you want until you work up a sweat. At least it's not only your fingers that'll be getting some exercise from tapping joysticks.
