Protein and amino acids help muscles heal, so loading up may help them build new cells and recover more quickly, says lead scientist Peter Watt, Ph.D. Down grub with essential amino acids such as eggs, chicken, and fish.

Do it for the girls: A study of adult premenopausal women found that those who average an extra 4.6 hours per week of moderate exercise (like slow running) or 7 hours per week of easy activity (like walking) may lower their risk of breast cancer by 9 percent versus sedentary women, the Journal of the National Cancer Institute reports. Activity lowers levels of hormones related to increased breast cancer risk, such as estrogen and insulin, explains lead investigator Graham Colditz, Ph.D.
