Be inspired by this injured soldier

May 23, 2009 by FN's Shar Bareng

racetrack.jpgThe next time you feel too lazy to jog, think of British soldier Phil Packer, who completed a 13-day marathon a year after being told he would never walk again.

Packer, who was injured in Iraq in February 2008, finished the London Marathon last May 9 by walking on crutches for two miles everyday. His participation raised £630,000 for Help For Heroes, a charity group that supports wounded veterans.

Before the marathon, Packer already rowed the English Channel in February. Next month, he is set to scale El Capitan, a 3,000-foot rock formation in California.

When asked why he was intent on racing for Help For Heroes, he told CNN, "I don't want to be helped. I want to help other people."
