I've yet to meet a person whose cup of tea is acquiring or renewing his personal documents, such as his driver's license, social security identification, passports, and more. Getting for the first time or updating your official documents may be meticulous, but it's always best to be prepared with them, especially since you never know when you're going to need these papers.

Let's start with two easy documents to renew.
Motorists will appreciate the Land Transportation Office's new One-Stop Shop, where renewal of driver's license will take about 20 minutes, tops. You should renew your license before it loses its color; this way you won't get in more trouble with traffic enforcers if you ever get flagged-down for a traffic violation. Also, it's best to renew your license while it is not expired yet so you won't have to pay anything; the driver's license manufacturer, AMPI Mega, will take care of that for you.
Another document that requires frequent renewals is the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) clearance, which is mostly required for job applications. If you don't want to renew your clearance every year, the NBI and Mega Data Corp. offers the Clearance Renewal Cards (CRC), powered by a chip that contains the applicant's information, including facial and fingerprint biometrics. When inserted into an automated clearance machine (ACM), the information on the card will be matched with information from the NBI database.
If the system finds no records, the ACM will automatically issue a print-out of the insurance. The CRC chip is updated automatically with the latest information per transaction. An innovation like this is sure to cut the waiting period for NBI clearances.
LTO's One-Stop Shops and NBI renewal offices are located in commercial centers nationwide. For the list of offices open near your area, check out www.lto.gov.ph and http://www.nbi.doj.gov.ph.
