Do you stick to your shopping budget?

Jun 23, 2008 by FN's Shar Bareng

budget_shop.jpgWhen it comes to shopping on a budget, the only major guideline I know is to stick to the budget, no matter what. There are some sure-fire ways to achieve this, though--one is to bring almost the exact amount (with some loose change of course, for emergencies) and two, leave the credit card at home, especially if you'd want to control your habit of reaching for that convenient little plastic card.

So, minding my wallet was a challenge when I visited the Hippie Flea Market last Saturday, especially since there were a lot of good stuff to buy. In the end I was able to spend just a little above my alloted amount for shopping, only weakening when I saw a cute twining bracelet for P40. Otherwise, I wouldn't have even thought of buying it (I know, I'm rationalizing).

Do you make up such rules for yourself when you're shopping on a budget? And if you do, do you make sure that you stick to them?
