3 ways friends can help cut your wedding costs

Jun 4, 2009 by FN's Shar Bareng

friendshelp.jpgYour wedding is as much a "friends" affair as it is a family effort. After all, your dear barkada is more than willing to lend a hand in your wedding preparations—some of which entail more effort than hiring strippers for your bridal shower.

Your friends can help you in so many ways, with a little creativity and resourcefulness. Here are three ways friends can help reduce your wedding expenses—which mean a lot in this time of crisis:

1. Lending space for your reception. Donna Schaper of the Huffington Post suggests borrowing garden space from a friend who owns a property that is big enough to host a wedding party. If they can't give you that as a wedding gift, perhaps they can rent it out for a low price.

2. Becoming your official photographer. These days, everyone has at least one friend who dabbles in photography. Ask your trigger-happy friend if he can take your wedding photos for free. At the very least, you can let him include your wedding pictures in his portfolio. AllWeddingIdeas.com recommends hiring a professional for a limited time only —from wedding day preps up to the ceremony, for example—and letting friends take over the responsibility during the reception.

3. Crafting your giveaways. Why not ask your friends with a talent for art to take care of giveaways as their wedding gift for you? Just give them ideas for trinkets and help them source materials. They can even give the tokens a more personal touch since they know you better than any supplier does.
