Higher Toll Fees and Taxi Fares in 2011: Fair or Foul?

This month sees a hike in taxi flag-down and incremental rates along with raised NLEX, SLEX, and SCTEX toll fees. What's your take on this? By Pia Garcia

ARTICLE_NLEX.jpgThe Land Transportation Franchise and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) issued an announcement saying that starting January 15, 2011, the new flag-down rate for taxis nationwide will now P40, P10 higher than the current flag-down rate. In the same announcement reported on Philstar.com, apart from the new flag-down rate, commuters will have to pay P3.50 for each succeeding 300 meters.

In addition to this, new toll fees will also be imposed for motorists using the North Luzon Expressway, South Luzon Expressway, and Subic-Clark Tarlac Expressway.

While the government is looking into a gradual implementation of these price hikes, these increases still come as unwelcome surprises to motorists and commuters everywhere.

FN Wants to know what you think about these two price increases about to take place. Do you think that the new toll fees and taxi fare hikes are fair?

Poll Question:
Higher Toll Fees and Taxi Fares in 2011: Fair or Foul?
  1. Fair. All prices are going up, so it makes sense that they should raise these as well--I expect buses, jeepneys, and other public transport to follow soon.
  2. Fair. The news reports say that the price hikes were petitioned way back, so it was bound to happen sometime.
  3. Foul. The hikes cost too much for the average commuter or motorist. I agree that an increase is to be expected, but not this much!
  4. Foul. They should have chosen between the taxi fare increase or the new toll fees, not both.
  5. I don’t ride taxis and I don’t use the expressways, so this issue doesn't really affect me.
