Do you enjoy listening to the festive sound of Latin music or stamping your foot to the intense beat of flamenco? Latin music and dance enthusiasts will definitely enjoy Instituto Cervantes' film offerings this month, which include three movies by director Carlos Saura that give us a peek into the world of flamenco.

Catch the screening of Sevillanas in Instituto Cervantes on January 17. Filmed like a documentary, Sevillanas consists of eleven short performances by Spain's most famous flamenco dancers, singers, and guitarists. This film provides an in-depth view of the Sevillanas form of flamenco and its dancers.
Few celebrations of ethnic and cultural identity enjoyed as much success as Saura's brilliant interpretation of Isaac Albeniz' masterpiece Iberia Suite had. Showing on January 24, this film showcases an unprecedented wealth of talent from the Spanish performing arts community, brought together by Saura to create this love song for their homeland. It features Spanish dancers at all ages: from the beautiful and elegant elderly flamenco dancers in traditional costume to children joyously dancing with their instructors.
After more than two years research on the Fado, Portugal's traditional song, Saura makes an important change in his approach to musical films. In Fados, showing on January 31, the plot and images work to reflect the origins of this organic port music.
Watch these films for free at Instituto Cervantes, located at 855 T.M. Kalaw St., Ermita, Manila. For more information on their cultural events, call 526-1482 or log on to Instituto Cervantes online.
