The secret behind these digital wonders

Feb 27, 2009 by FN's Shar Bareng

valentine.jpgThe Magic Mirror in Shrek The Musical features a digital face that can talk in real-time. This huge valentine sculpture reflects the glittering lights of Times Square in New York, making it a beautiful centerpiece at night.

Wondering how this is all possible?

The technology behind these two wonders is Autodesk 3D, a software that enables customers to visualize, simulate and analyze entertainment and design projects. If you thought the Magic Mirror was possible only in Snow White, Autodesk designed a system that captures the facial motion of actor John Tartaglia for animating the face in the Magic Mirror, the first of its kind in a Broadway musical.

Meanwhile, the 10-foot "Valentines to Times Square" artwork in Times Square, New York, features a metallic surface with a highly reflective, molded and laser cut metal sheeting. This beautiful sculpture was unveiled last February 14.

Looking at the Valentine sculpture alone makes us wonder what other beautiful digital art Autodesk can do next.
