He inspired people to move for change when he campaigned for presidency of the United States of America. After being elected to the White House just last month, he found he had more supporters not only in the US, but all over the world, too. So, while it's really not surprising that US president-elect Barack Obama was hailed 2008's Person of the Year by Time magazine, his story still never fails to fascinate us.In Time's Person of the Year feature, we get a glimpse of Obama's sparse transition office in Chicago, and, on the same page, get the skinny on the challenges he's up against. "One imploding economy, one deteriorating war in an impossible region, and two versions of Armageddon—the bang of loose nukes and the whimper of environmental collapse. That's just for starters; we'll hear the unabridged version shortly," Time summarizes so succinctly. You can read the full Obama interview here.
The Person of the Year issue also featured runners-up for the honor, such as Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich, who became the butt of jokes after he practiced "the very brand of dirty politics that Obama had pledged to do away with." US Secretary of Treasury Henry Paulson and Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin also made it to the list. French president Nicolas Sarkozy and Chinese film director Zhang Yimou completed the runners-up.
