Team Blake’s Jermaine Paul is the winner of Season 2 of The Voice US, reports Entertainment Weekly. He beat out Team Cee Lo’s indie rocker Juliet Simms (who took second place), former Mickey Mouse Club member Tony Lucca from Team Adam (third place), and Team Christina’s operatic singer Chris Mann (fourth place).
Before entering The Voice, Jermaine worked as a backup singer for artists like Alicia Keys and Mary J. Blige, but at the age of 32, he realized he wanted to be in the spotlight. For the finale, he showed off his powerful vocals by singing R. Kelly’s “I Believe I Can Fly.” He and his coach, country star Blake Shelton joined forces by singing The Blues Brothers’ “Soul Man,” and, to thank his mentor, he sang Shelton’s “God Gave Me You.”
An emotional Jermaine couldn’t believe that he'd won the top spot, saying, "I just wanna say thank you to everybody that voted for me." With tears in his eyes, he ended the show with his rendition of "I Believe I Can Fly."
As the winner of The Voice, Jermaine gets a recording contract and US$100,000 prize.
