Make way for the environment-friendly EJeepney

Mar 15, 2009 by FN's Shar Bareng

Given that environmental concerns continue to grow at an alarming rate, it’s about time the iconic (often smoke-belching) Filipino jeepney is revamped to adapt to earth-friendly measures. The answer to that is the Electric Jeepney or EJeepney, now being endorsed by Green Renewable Independent Power Producer (GRIPP) for wider, more popular usage.

The EJeepney does not emit smoke, which is great news especially for people with respiratory ailments like asthma and allergies. It also guarantees silent rides with its electric power, and zero power consumption while it is at a stop.

The EJeepney’s four-speed model can go faster than usual golf cars, and can accommodate 14 passengers at a time. People can look forward to seeing more EJeepneys on Metro Manila roads soon, as the Land Transportation Office (LTO) has granted the vehicle normal registration.

This definitely makes the future of public transportation something to look forward to. And one thing’s for sure: we can’t wait to experience an EJeepney ride around the city!
