Filipino talent knows no bounds. Georgette Sanchez, a Filipina ballerina star who has gone cross-continental with her dancing, brings her world-class talent to the Philippine stage in Neo-Filipino, the final program in Ballet Philippines’ 39th anniversary season.
As a member of Ballet Philippines in the 90s, Georgette was a fixture in classical and modern ballet productions. She toured with the prestigious company here and abroad, most notably as Sita in the world premiere of Unraveling the Maya in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The rest of the ballet world was not oblivious to the artiste’s talents. Georgette’s memorable performances in Agnes Locsin’s September and Alden Lugnasin’s Aku won her a silver medal in the 9th Concours International de Danse de Paris in 2000.
During the height of her days at Ballet Philippines, European choreographer and director Nicolas Musin approached Georgette with an offer she couldn’t refuse: to join the abcdancecompany in St. Potten, Austria.
“I left Ballet Philippines March of 2002. I was very excited to leave for Austria, it was my first time. But I didn’t have any idea how the company would be. I had mixed feelings at that time,” she says.
After many years of captivating audiences in Europe, Georgette retreated to a quiet life in her hometown of Bacolod, where she opened a dance school with sister Gianne.
