Designer water, anyone?

Nov 29, 2008 by FN Blogger Kissa Castañeda

designer_evian.jpgDo you remember when buying branded bottled water was considered asinine--so absurd, it's like paying for air, which is freely available everywhere? Well, it's hard to remember those times now, especially with products like Bling H20, which sells for $40--about 100 times the price of tap water.

For those into high-quality water bottled in exquisite designs, here's a slightly more practical option: Evian just launched its designer bottle for 2009, in collaboration with topnotch fashion designer Jean Paul Gaultier. The bottle itself is simple, taking its shape from traditional wine bottle. Yet it has a graphic edge to it, with the brand name emblazoned in big, bold blue letters.

For a change, you can take it to house parties instead of that obligatory bottle of wine. The hosts can certainly find another use for it after the water has been consumed. Priced at approximately $10-15, it is certainly indulgent but reasonably so. Those interested can troop online to place orders.

And if you're thinking Evian just jumped on the collaboration bandwagon, you're wrong. They started the yearly designer bottle project back in 1993, with Nelson Mandela as first-ever designer.

Check out this link to view the bottle gallery. Orders are available online.
