"Honest to blog!" was one of the memorable one-liners from Diablo Cody's breakthrough film, Juno. While the line probably made us nod in understanding, it also reflected how Diablo Cody herself approached the dynamics of blogging.
From a parody of a blog to the more popular "Pussy Ranch," Diablo has moved to MySpace, which shows readers more of her life following the success of her first screenplay. Prior to her appearance at the Oscars night last February, she ponders the fact that even her choice of footwear is now publicized. "I'm actually really pissed about this, now that I think about it. They're using me to publicize their stupid shoes and NOBODY ASKED ME. I would never consent to a lame publicity stunt at a time when I already want to hide," she wrote.
And while her blog has its share of haters for various reasons (such as namedropping), those of us who easily get starstruck may identify with Diablo's notes on meeting Tinseltown folk. A one-liner entry after meeting Joe McIntyre in May was enough to convey how shocked she was. As for appearing on Oprah, Diablo writes, "That was some intense shit. Amazing, though! I never thought my parents and I would be on TV together, let alone in the First Church of Harpo."
That’s how honest she can get.
