Wondering where to take your balikbayan friends and relatives apart from the ever-bustling malls? Or wanting to take a breather from shopping and other Christmas-related chores? Why not go with your balikbayans to Yuchengco Museum in Makati, which has exhibits open for viewing until today, before the holidays officially begin. Not only will the change of pace recharge all of you, the exhibits also provide great conversation starters for all those parties you’ll attend.
Today is the last day of "Beyond the Currents: The Culture and Power of Sulu," so why not start with this exhibit? Through archival photographs, maps, weapons, jewelry, and traditional art, the exhibit presents Sulu as an international trade gateway between Europe and China.
It's also not too late to see "Mukhang Tsinoy: Portraits by Fernando Amorsolo," an exhibit of Sino-Filipino portraits by the country's first National Artist. But if you don't have time for this exhibit just yet, you still have until January 17 to see Amorsolo's work.
If you're looking for more gifts for your balikbayans and other loved ones, you can also check out Yuchengco's Books & Gifts Corner for their CDs, gifts, and coffee-table books featuring favorite figures in Philippine art and culture.
The Yuchengco Museum is open until today and is set to reopen on January 2, following regular museum hours. Visit the Yuchengco Museum at RCBC Plaza, Ayala Avenue cor. Buendia Avenue, Makati City.
