Japanese food has been invading Manila. We now have Pepper Lunch in Power Plant and Shangri-La Mall as well as Royce, also in Rockwell. Japan has a way with food and can even improve on dishes not originally from their country. So if you're craving for more delish food from Japan, here are some worth giving a try:
1. Shiroi Koibito
Like Royce, this lovely classic is also from Hokkaido region of Japan. It is white chocolate sandwiched in thin "langue de chat" cookies (similar to lengua) and is so delicate, it melts on your tongue. The name literally means "white boyfriend/girlfriend," which may seem nonsense but once you try it, you'd love to have it around all the time (similar to a loved one).
2. Choco cro
You'll find this favorite in Saint Marc cafes all around Tokyo. It's a simple pleasure, really—crisp and fluffy on the outside with soft chocolate on the inside. Apart from chocolate, they occasionally have croissants filled with banana and almond, depending on the season.
3. Freshness Burger
Going with a slightly retro Americana theme, this Japanese burger chain sure beats Mos Burger. While burgers do not really qualify as Japanese food, their take is great. Try the classic cheeseburger and you'll know what I'm talking about.
