Make this Aura your dream phone

Nov 21, 2008 by FN's Shar Bareng

aura1.jpgLooking for a mobile phone that veers from typical designs? Check out Motorola's new Aura phone, which takes inspiration from classic luxury watches.

Unlike most phones, Aura takes the shape of round, luxury watches, coupled with a Swiss-made rotating mechanism. Just like luxury watches, Aura is made of stainless steel etched with textures and patterns that take two weeks to sculpt, etch, and polish. Its camera lens is even crafted from 62-carat scratch-resistant sapphire crystals.

Even the act of opening the phone has a different feel. Swinging the front piece feels more like opening a luxury car door, while turning the phone over reveals a window into its mechanical heart.

Yet its unique look does not sacrifice functionality, as Motorola incorporates its CrystalTalk technology into each unit, which enables clear reception even in noisy environments. Aura also comes with Stereo Bluetooth, which allows users to make and take calls hands-free when used with a compatible headset.

See how unique Aura looks in the gallery below.

Apple introduces new MacBooks

Oct 29, 2008 by FN's Shar Bareng

mac1.jpgJust when we thought MacBooks couldn't get any better, Apple introduces two new members of the MacBook family: the all-new MacBook and MacBook Pro.

The new 13-inch MacBook and 15-inch MacBook Pro, both made from solid aluminum, are thinner and even "greener," as Apple has replaced their fluorescent lighting with LED backlight, creating the same amount of brightness with less space. Unlike fluorescent lamps, LEDs also reaches maximum brightness at a shorter time.

Another upgrade from the old MacBook is the button being removed from the trackpad, since the trackpad already doubles as a button with its new Multi-Touch technology. You can use two fingers to scroll up and down a page, pinch to zoom in and wipe out, or swipe with three fingers to flip through photos, like how you navigate through iTouch.

For a laptop this small, new MacBooks are also powerful as they come with a 320GB hard drive, a Core 2 Duo processor, and 1066MHz DDR3 memory.

Take a peek at the new MacBooks in the gallery below.

Lomo cameras: low tech, high fun!

Oct 3, 2008 by FN's Chrissy Icamina

FISHEYE-FAMILY2.jpgThere's something really fascinating with going retro. With lomography, one is given a blast to the past with its plastic, point-and-shoot housing—which is a refreshing (and not to mention more affordable) way to practice photography in an age where pricey DSLRs reign supreme.

The other awesome thing about lomo cameras is they make your shots look artistic even if you haven't got an artsy bone in your body. Simply point and shoot, and you'll end up with cool photographs with splashes of color, lens effects, and breathtaking panoramic shots.

And as you can see here, they're awfully cute, too. Check out our gallery of lomo cameras care of the Lomographic Embassy of Manila and see which lomo cam will capture your fancy.
