On a visit to Siem Reap in 2006, I was astounded to find Wi-Fi access almost everywhere. It was techie heaven! Sad to say, the rest of the world is not as generous in providing free Internet access. Even some expensive hotels charge for Internet use, which is ridiculous when it's as essential as air to some.
Here in Tokyo, I can surf the net using my mobile phone, though it still doesn't feel the same, probably because of the slower loading time and the fact that I had to type in everything using my thumb, The thirst for seamless wireless access, however, has been answered in the form of E-mobile--a device that allows me to connect to the Internet from anywhere in the city.
For me, the "E"in E-mobile stands for "everywhere." Save for the subway, my E-mobile device allows for a 7.2mbs connection in any place where my cellphone has a signal. All I need to do is plug the mouse-like hardware in my USB port and click connect.
I'll admit that it wouldn't be as perfect without an Asus Eee PC, which is a handy and pretty 7 inch mobile PC. In this case, the three Es stand for "Easy to learn, work, play; Excellent Internet experience and Excellent on-the-Go." While the slogan is long, their marketing pitch proves true.
The Eee PC 4G is a computer filled only with the essentials--an XP operating system, 4G of RAM and a 1.2 Ghz. What it lacks inside, it makes up for in style. It is the slickest looking among the crop, owing its thinness and lightness--it's only 0.92 kg--to its bare specs. Don't get me wrong, this is not a dummy laptop. It's just that it's made to be a secondary computer and is perfect for that job.
Though the Taiwanese brand ASUS is still building its name, it has garnerned 616 awards this 2008 alone. It was also voted Number 1 in quality and sevice by Wall Street Journal Asia. Among their many products, the Eee PC is one that got a fair amount of great reviews.
Now I don't have to be in a cafe to check my Gmail, I can lie in the park or sit inside a crowded train and satiate my need to surf. Isn't that just a dream?

Yeah, the eeePC is ideal for writers, and it's the perfect travel companion, imho, because the Macbook Air is just too expensive; a girl who is going to rather dangerous places would have to think twice about lugging an MBA around.. The eeePC would be a better choice because it would be inconspicuous in a big bag. :) Just my two cents'. :D
