After sharing with you some tips for shopping during sales, we bring you bargain shopping tips from local fashion insiders Charmaine Palermo, Bea Constantino, Donna Cuna-Pita, and Kat Dy, which they shared in the June issue of MarieClaire Philippines.
Follow tips from these stylists and you’re sure to get the best bargain buys—and the most out of them. You no longer have an excuse for buying things that are substandard and which you would never use anyway.
1. “Don’t wear printed items at once,” Charmaine advises. “Someone else might be wearing the same item on the very night you’re out. I give it six months to a year.” Bea extends this to all other sale items you bought, which she says you shouldn’t wear until after at least three months.
2. Have a budget and stick to the basics, such as tank tops and jeans when you’re shopping during a sale, Charmaine stresses. “They are worth it and you really wear them often.”
3. “Always check for any damage,” Bea advises. Sale items may come cheap, but avoid wasting money on ruined or soiled items you unwittingly bought and would end up never using.
4. Want to snag designer items on sale? Donna discloses that “Designers from the Young Designers’ Guild and individual designers such as Rajo Laurel and Charina Sarte hold sales where you can get beautiful items for up to 70 percent off.”
5. When shopping for vintage or second-hand items, “Always check for stains and horrid smells, since these are the things that are hard to get rid of,” Kat says. “Choose something that needs minimal repair or alteration.” She also stresses having patience in spotting a truly good find. And when you do, “wear it like it’s the most fabulous thing in the whole wide world, and integrate it into an equally stylish ensemble so no one will ever know.”
