Makeup tips to achieve this season's looks

Sep 1, 2008 by FN's Trixie Reyna

bodyshop_Deadly_Desire___Au.jpgWhat colors must we wear for daytime and nighttime makeup? How do we achieve a clean look at any time of day? And is it possible to use ordinary makeup if we want to achieve a whimsical, creative look on those occasions when we simply want to stand out?

The Body Shop’s resident makeup artists gave their answers to these common makeup queries and showed us that beautiful and flawless makeup for day or night, or even a creative look can be achieved in 15 minutes—isn’t this good news for us, busy women?

Evening look: Smoky or stormy eyes are still in for the evening look, according to The Body Shop resident makeup artist Argie Lingat. The key to this look is to have flawless complexion, which you can achieve by using a foundation that provides good coverage. A clean complexion brings out the drama in your dark eyes, which you can achieve by layering and blending dark eye shadow and defining your eyes with dark eye pencil.

Day look: The Body Shop’s Christine Fernandez says that earth colors are still best for daytime makeup. Be a little more adventurous and try green eye color and shimmer, which are still in for day looks. The key is to apply them very lightly and to blend really well. Then highlight your cheeks with a nude pink hue and then use a delicate glossy shade for your lips.

Creative look: Planning your look for a themed party? Or do you simply want to stand out at night? You don’t really need to go all out with face paint and glitters. The Body Shop resident makeup artist Carissa Olmilla says that you can actually use ordinary makeup in achieving a whimsical look. Try a glittery eye pencil to trace fancy designs on your temples, then highlight this with eye shadow. Use shimmer makeup on your eyelids, too.

If you plan to update your makeup collection with this season’s colors, you might want to try The Body Shop's Jewels of Desire Limited Edition Autumn 2008 Make-Up Collection. They have colors that will work well in achieving the looks mentioned above, and claim to have natural moisturizing ingredients, silky textures, and precious jewel-like finishes. The look this collection wants to achieve involves a flawless complexion, statement-making eyes, and glossy cheeks.

The line includes Cheek Bloom (P1195), a cream blush that is said to have smooth-as-silk texture, available in Desert Rose and Dune Pink shades; Duo Shadow (P795) in Khaki Green and Eucalyptus Grey (that is said to give you those dramatic eyes for the evening); Eye Pencil (P550) in Cactus Green and Rocky Blue; and Lip Click (P695), in two intense shades with glossy finish, Spiced Red and Dusky Pink (ideal for day makeup). They are also launching the new Divide & Multiply Mascara (P795), a one-step lengthening and separating mascara that supposedly delivers long, dark, glossy lashes in seconds.

Available in all The Body Shop branches.
