Caring for your makeup brush not only keeps them in the best shape, but also keep your face from dirt and bacteria the brush collects overtime. Keep your brushes-and your face-clean and healthy! There are many products available to clean your makeup brushes…and they are readily available in your home!

1) Facial cleanser – if it removes dirt and makeup from your face, then it should remove the makeup from your brush.
2) Hair shampoo – since most makeup bristles are made of natural bristles (they include squirrel, badger, pony, goat, sable and kolinsky) using hair shampoo would also work great on your makeup brushes; you might want to use shampoo for oily hair types to remove oil gathered from your cosmetics and skin.
3) Vinegar and water – our lola’s used vinegar as a replacement for bleach as a disinfectant. Add 2 parts water to 1 part vinegar and voila! We have to remind you though that your brushes might smell sour after using this vinegar cleanser; but we’re covering how to deodorize your makeup brushes on the next post!
4) Home-made brush cleanser – to save yourself from trying out makeup brush cleansers from the department store, make yourself a home made brush cleanser! According to this video, you can mix the following to create your own brush cleanser:
1 cup purified or distilled
1/4 cup Isopropyl Alcohol or Isoprophenol (commonly known as Household Rubbing Alcohol)
1/2 tbsp household detergent (dish washing liquid soap)
1/2 tbsp hair shampoo or baby shampoo
1 tbsp spray-on leave-in conditioner (spray-on liquid, not gel, not lotion)
