In the attempt to tame and prettify our crowning glory, we may be doing more damage than good.
According to Victor Ortega of Emphasis, the top sources of hair damage for Filipinas are “chemical hair treatments that lead to split ends and even hair loss.” Meanwhile, Jing Monis of Propaganda says, “Direct heat from a dryer, flat iron, and curling iron [are common sources of damage].”
While we know that hair, per se, is dead, damage to its appearance and texture should not be taken lightly. So to guide you in maintaining beautiful hair and minimizing damage, hair experts Victor, Jing, Louis Kee (Louis Phillip Kee Hair Salon Systems), Celeste Tuviera (Symmetria), Jude Hipolito and Rose Velasco (Univers Phyto Salon by Kaizen), and Henri Calayag (Henri Calayag Salon)—who were all tapped to be part of the Pantene Council of Stylists—gave some tips specifically for busy women like us.
Moderate use of chemical procedures. And consult a professional before you decide to undergo one so they can assess the quality and status of your hair. Never attempt to use these chemicals at home.
Invest in the best hair tools. A good set of basic hair appliances will help you avoid styling damage. Choose ionic or ceramic tools as these have protective elements that keep hair from drying, allowing your hair to retain moisture and shine. Ceramic tools have a smooth surface that doesn't tear or break hair and its surface heats uniformly without damaging hot spots. Meanwhile, ionic technology uses negative ions to heal damaged hair. Damaged hair is positively charged so negative ions bond with hair to seal broken cuticles and infuse moisture.

Get a regular trim. Every four to 12 weeks will do the trick, to remove split ends—which is actually caused by excessive brushing and repeated heat-styling.
