Eye makeup trend: the 3D technique

Jun 30, 2008 by FN's Trixie Reyna

3D_eye_technique2.jpgFor busy, hardworking women, everything she wears should take her from day to night. And this also goes for eye makeup.

That’s why we love eye shadow palettes that have different, complementing shades that can be used to create fresh looks that can brighten up our face even on a busy workday and give us that mysterious and dramatic effect for a night of partying. One application you can use is the 3D makeup technique, which can give you this desired versatility while also giving your eyes stunning depth and brilliance all day long.

To achieve this look, begin by working on the upper lid. Highlight your eyes by blending two eye colors in sparkling and smooth textures (i.e. silver-blue and powder blue). For daytime, you may opt to use just the smooth texture. Use a brush with a wide tip to spread the color from below the brow over the entire lid. Then use the thick applicator to spread a medium colored shadow in a shade slightly darker than the first (i.e. aqua blue) from the outer corner of the eye to the eyelid crease. After this, use the thick tip to gently apply a shiny complementing color (i.e. sea green) from the inner corner toward the center of the eyelid. Now use the thin tip of the brush to draw a line in a darker color along the lashes to accentuate the eyes (i.e. cobalt blue).

3d_eyeshadow_blue.jpgNow that you have achieved beautifully vibrant eyelids, add the same dark color accent you used halfway along your lower lids. Then also use the same shiny color you used on your upper lid to line your lower eyelid, starting from the inner corner toward the outer, until it joins the point where you applied the accent color.

For a cool and fresh look, try this look with a combination of blues and greens that’s perfect for the current unpredictable rainy/sunny season. Using different shades of pink for this technique, meanwhile, will give you a mature yet sweet look that is delicately feminine and will certainly soften your features. If you are more trendy and adventurous, try this using a combination of silver, bronze, and cobalt hues for that futuristic look.
