Department stores: haven for fashionistas on a budget

Aug 20, 2008 by FN's Trixie Reyna

deptstore.jpgWe can’t have budget month without a feature on department stores—a treasure trove of fabulous yet very affordable finds.

“The secret source of any stylist worth her salt, the department store poses a veritable quest with plentiful racks and shelves of tempting products,” writes stylist Rachelle Que in this month’s issue of Preview. Many of the smartest shopping finds are tucked away in the racks of your favorite department stores, and Preview’s special guide to department store shopping make the hunt easier for you by sharing a stylist’s secrets to unearthing fashion gems. Here are some tips!

Crossings
The Ramp, Crossings’ fashion strip, is now in Glorietta, Trinoma, Podium, and Shangri-La Plaza. Cherry pick from the best of their local (think Richi Ortega’s Souk) and global designers (Thai brand Fly Now is available exclusively). The shoe line Urge and bags from Pink Gingham also carry coveted styles in prices that won’t break the bank.”
FN Tip: If you’re looking for glam party and evening dresses in guilt-free prices, The Ramp is the place for you, too!

Landmark
“The Landmark Trinoma’s spacious interiors make you want to shop all day. For trendier picks, first search the area near Counter 23 (ladies’ floor) where local designers like Rico Salandanan are situated. Its in-house brand, Details at The Landmark, has a wide selection of budget-friendly tops, bottoms, and dresses that will make any fashionista giddy with excitement.”
FN Tip: Landmark Makati is also a great place to look for affordable formal dresses for weddings and other special occasions. They have a great selection of shoes, too.

Robinsons
“We like shopping at Robinsons Galleria, though a heart for the hunt is needed to find a gem. Don’t be discouraged by all the merchandise; waiting on random racks are items as striking as designer pieces. Take your time and browse through the whole store. Expect the labels Liberte, Pop Star, and Pink Lemonade to quench your thirst for fashionable staples.”
FN Tip: Check out FN Dressing Room and try on the mannequin some fabulous finds from Robinsons and the labels they carry.

Shoemart
“We love the selection at SM Department Store’s Makati branch, which carries a host of affordable fashion staples. The Women’s section takes up the entire third floor. The best finds are from SM’s in-house labels: Studio S for trendy dresses, Alexane for corporate wear, and hip accoutrements from their accessory line, W.W.W.
FN Tip: If you want to update your wardrobe with the season’s trends without spending too much, this is the place to go. Also check out their branch in Mall of Asia and Megamall. They have endless choices for clothes and shoes that look so trendy and stylish, you’ll never guess they all come so affordable. A lot of the shoes range from P500 to less than P1000, you wouldn’t mind buying at least two at a time!
