Yesterday, for the first time ever, I found myself walking alongside advocates of breast cancer awareness. It’s hard to determine how many we were, but the look of wonder on those who saw us parading under the scorching heat of the sun told me enough.
I'm talking about Avon’s Let’s Walk the Talk event at the SM Mall of Asia open grounds. It’s part of the company’s Kiss Goodbye to Breast Cancer (KGBC) campaign of which young actress Sarah Lahbati is a spokesperson for.
There were two main events that day: the run and the walk. The assembly for the run was at 4:30 a.m. I wanted to participate in the run just like the ladies behind me in the picture, but considering how out of shape I am (a fact which was confirmed by Biggest Loser Philippines trainer Coach Jim Saret), I thought it best to sit the run out. However, I wasn’t going to miss the walk for anything in the world.
Now, breast cancer does not run in our family, and I don’t know anyone with the disease. However, I believe in early detection and apparently, so do a good number of men and women. You don't need to have a personal experience with breast cancer to support breast cancer awareness. Even a few celebrities were there to support the cause.
