I used to work for a photography studio, and what clients usually asked me for help with was posing in front of the camera. Since we’re not supermodels, I’m sure we’re uneasy when it comes making poses, especially when we want our portraits to be done professionally.
One thing to note about posing is that, sometimes, the more awkward it is, the better it comes across in the photos. Another tip is that you should smile with your eyes, not with your teeth. It may sound redundant, but it is true. To take a page out of Tyra Banks’s book, you should learn how to “smize.”
A friend, Deneb Villanueva, and I usually use this tip whenever directing how to pose: Whenever you pose, think of something that aches. Scroll through the gallery below to see some examples of our ache poses.
