Which budget date should you and your guy go on?

Want to be romantic without hurting your wallet? Take this quiz to find out which cheap but fun date would be perfect for you and your man. By Charlene J. Owen

"Belt tightening" has been a pretty common habit in the past few months--even years--due to the volatile prices of basic commodities. You and your man have probably experienced going over your budgets at one point or another since it’s almost impossible to predict whether or not what you have is more than enough for everything that you need. But with all the saving and accounting you’ve been having to do, do you even remember when you last enjoyed a candlelit dinner for two?  

No need to worry. You may not be able to afford to have a posh getaway for the time being, but you can still have great couple quality time without spending too much.  Answer our quiz and check out which budget date you and your man are bound to enjoy.

1 .) It’s been drizzling the entire day. You and your man decide to:
  1. Mix some margaritas, open bags of chips, and text your couple friends to come over for a night of good old tambay.
  2. Brew yourselves coffee and bring out your boxed set of the Star Wars trilogy. It’s sci-fi night, after all.
  3. Grab bottles of energy drinks, put on water-resistant jackets, and take a quick jog, enjoying the cool drizzle as you work out.
  4. Run out and look for the best pares house you can find. What’s a little bit of rain, after all?
2 .) Your guy’s birthday is coming up. Which present are you likely to get him?
  1. A surprise birthday party with his friends
  2. A romantic candlelit dinner for two you've prepared yourself
  3. The pair of rubber shoes he has been ogling for weeks
  4. A date in Luneta Park, just for the heck of it
3 .) You just had a lover’s spat. What are you going to do?
  1. Call a friend and talk about what just happened
  2. Calm down and try to make lambing
  3. Go out for a quick spin on your bike or brisk walk to work off your frustrations
  4. Grab some isaw from your favorite carinderia as a peace offering
4 .) What kind of music do you and your man like listening to?
  1. House music--something a lot of people can groove to
  2. Acoustic and jazz--best for chilling out on the couch
  3. Anything with a quick, consistent beat to keep you awake for your evening jogs
  4. Nothing in particular since it really depends on your mood
5 .) It’s only three days away until payday. You suddenly get a hankering for Japanese food, but you’re both nearly broke. You:
  1. Suggest a cheap Japanese get-together with your friends and split the bill
  2. Whip up a quick Asian dinner with what you have at home and schedule your Japanese food trip after you get paid
  3. Split some tuna sashimi with your man. It’s cheaper if you share, and it’s perfect for your diet.
  4. Plan to go to that really great Japanese restaurant you’ve heard your friends gush about once payday comes
6 .) You found a great vacation deal on a group buying site. What's your next move?
  1. Quickly call all of your friends and invite them to go with you.
  2. Think about it, then let it slide. You need to save, and you’re sure you’ll find other great deals some other time.
  3. First find out what kind of sports and recreational activities the resort offers before signing up.
  4. Sign you and your guy up right away; you know he’ll love it.
7 .) You and your man decide to play hooky for the day. What do you plan on doing?
  1. Be the bad influence on your barkada. Ask them to play hooky as well so you can all just chill out somewhere.
  2. Stay home and snuggle under the covers. It’s a good time to sneak in a few rounds of naughtiness.
  3. Spend half the day working out at the gym and half the day working out in bed.
  4. Go on a daycation. There’s a lot happening in the metro, and you don’t want to miss out.
8 .) What kind of restaurants do you and your guy frequent?
  1. Grills and dampas--they’re relatively cheap and great for hanging out with friends
  2. Pizza parlors--they’re cozy and also do deliveries when you’re too lazy to go out of the house
  3. Vegetarian restos--they’re healthy and often have that upbeat, artsy vibe you both love
  4. You can’t choose--you like to try just about anything at least once
9 .) It’s your first year together. What’s your idea of a perfect anniversary celebration?
  1. Have your celebratory dinner, and then meet up with your friends later on for drinks.
  2. Prepare a special dinner with your man, then have a good snuggle session afterward.
  3. Go on that hiking trip you both have always wanted to try.
  4. Go where the wind takes you. Your relationship is an adventure, after all.
10 .) If you only had P100 left in each of your wallets, how would you spend your money?
  1. You'd buy a bucket of beer with your barkada.
  2. You'd go to dinner, since it’s best to have some delivered while the two of you chill out in front of the tube.
  3. You'd probably buy the full version of the exercise app you have on your phones.
