A marriage is a union of two unique individuals, each with a distinct personality. One brings into this relationship a wealth of history, current concerns, and future aspirations. In a marriage, the dynamics that stem from what a person brings into the relationship is truly greater than the simple sum of their parts. Consequently, one relationship can never be compared to another in the same way one person cannot be compared to another.

Though each couple is different, there are basic elements that each relationship may need in order to be successful. How they manifest in a specific partnership may differ across situations and from couple to couple. They are composed of eight elements with the acronym: TRUE LOVE. These elements are often overlapping and are not mutually exclusive. In fact, each one of them may flow from one to the next.

for me, i still go for the tradional roles of men and women when it comes to marriage. it's difficult for some women to get pregnant, give birth and at the same time be the breadwinner of the family.

Trust, effort, understanding and open communication is really important in order to make the relationship work, without these, it will eventually end up.Both parties need to participate to make it work. It's a give-and-take thing.

Tennisgirl, what you said is TRUE. I am a single mom and also a breadwinner of my family. It is really hard to be alone because you don't get to enjoy life anymore if no one is there (husband)for you. :(

despite what others expect, and what books say, you and your partner still has the last say; after all, love is what you make it.
