Men typically spring for the first few dates, but in some cases, they tend to spend more than they normally would. According to a study published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, men become bigger spenders when they think that there is a scarcity of women in their community.
In the study, researchers decided to create a false write-up of the sex ratio in a particular area. Men were recruited to read the article and were then asked about their borrowing and spending plans. Those who read that there were fewer women in their locality planned to set aside 42 percent less money for savings. Consequently, they were 84 percent more inclined to borrow money for household expenses.
The study also revealed that the men don’t just plan to spend money to get girls, they are also willing to shell out cash in order to keep the competition away and make a good impression on the opposite sex at the same time. Interestingly, women who think that there are fewer females in their area tend to expect men to spend more on lavish things like engagement rings and flowers on Valentine’s Day.
It’s the law of supply and demand. When there are more than enough women to go around, guys don’t feel the pressure to swipe their credit cards as much. Whether the same principle applies to how well guys will treat you in the long-run remains to be seen.
Your guy doesn't need to burn a hole in his wallet to give you the date of your dreams, though. Check out this article for ideas:
