How texting can backfire on your date life

Apr 28, 2009 by FN's Cheekie Albay

You know the signs you’re smitten with this new guy you’re seeing: You can’t get him out of your mind, you gush endlessly about him to your girlfriends…and you can’t resist the urge to send him a text message.

And while there is nothing wrong with these, you know that too much of something can always sabotage a good thing…especially when it comes to texting him too often.

“Overdoing it can freak guys out,” says relationship expert Arlene Krieger, PhD, in this month’s issue of Cosmopolitan Philippines. Check out some instances in which texting can backfire on your budding relationship, as cited by Cosmo.

  • When you’re drunk. Don’t text a guy when you’re tipsy, especially if it’s to say you want to meet him—pronto.

  • When you’re mad. You know how text messages can get misinterpreted—and it’s in black and white, too. Expressing your annoyance that he hasn’t called also makes you sound insecure—something you don’t want to be in the early stages of a relationship—or ever.

  • When you’ve already sent a text that day. There’s nothing wrong with staying in touch, but when you overdo it, you appear too available. This might make him lax about calling you or seeing you. Keep him on his toes every time.

korek! don't appear too desperate, or else the guy will take you for granted.
