Decoding male body language: signs he likes you

Nov 11, 2008 by FN's Trixie Reyna

Have you ever met a guy at a party and felt that he may like you—but you’re just not that sure?

Wonder no more. You can actually pick up signs that he likes you simply by observing his body language. After all, whatever he can’t say out loud is bound to come out in his actions. In this month’s issue of Cosmopolitan Philippines, body-language expert Janine Driver helped decode the actions of men and women interacting in one of the metro’s hot spots to reveal how they feel about each other. Here are five of the many tell-tale behavioral signs he likes you, according to Cosmo:

1. When he wants to get to know you deeper, he’ll touch a sensitive spot, like your upper arm. Then he may grab the opportunity to lean in to whisper something as an excuse to move closer to you.

2. You can’t take your eyes off each other—which is a sure sign there’s attraction. Next time you meet a new guy you’re interested in, let him know by maintaining eye contact. If he does the same, you know the interest is mutual.

3. By standing less than an arm’s length away from you, he’s telling you he wants to get to know you more intimately.

4. First he does something to make you notice him, and then he plays hard to get by turning away. Yet you see that his shoulders are squared and he’s standing tall, which means he actually wants you to see how manly or attractive he is.

5. He’s wide open: his open palms point or gesture in your direction, which shows sincere interest; and he plants his feet far apart to show his confidence when standing or spreads his legs when he’s sitting. This shows he may come on too strong, but this definitely spells he wants you.

Now you know what his mind would never verbalize. It’s up to you to reciprocate his interest—or subtly show him that you are not open to his advances by crossing your arms across your chest, keeping your legs together, sitting upright, or leaning back to create distance, among other ways.
