Dealing with: love and tradition

Apr 11, 2008 by FN's Chamie Castillo

Love VS TraditionEvery month, we at FemaleNetwork.com will provide a scenario and we’d like to hear your thoughts about it. Who knows? Your views may prove helpful to some of our FN sisters who find themselves in similar situations. Let’s start!

Do you believe that love conquers everything? Or can outside factors affect your decision on who to love? If you’ve watched Mano Po 5: Gua Ai Di, you may have learned how certain traditions are practiced. In this particular movie, Charity, a young Chinese woman (played by Angel Locsin) is bound by strict family traditions wherein she can only have a relationship with someone of pure Chinese descent—and falling for someone otherwise spells one big mess.

Let’s say you have a man of different culture (or maybe religion), are you willing to make a compromise and adapt to your lover’s traditions? Are you willing to learn and understand their family background, culture, and language even if their family will still look at you differently? Are you willing to take the risk and strive to be accepted?

So, if you were in this situation, how would you deal with it?
