The Philippine Canine Club Inc. (PCCI) recently released its top 10 dog breed rankings for 2011 using its annual registration statistics.
Small dogs continued to rule the list with the Shih Tzu (aka the Tibetan temple dog) retaining its place at first. The breed started topping the rankings in 2008, and from the 14,000 Shih Tzu owners that year, the number has since increased to over 24,000.
The Siberian Husky, a sled dog that used to occupy the 14th place on the list in 2008, was a surprise entry this year at 4th. The Beagle has also slowly gone up the ranks over the years. From 13th in 2008, it landed at 5th in 2011.
PCCI is delighted over the increase in the number of Filipinos registering purebred dogs. On February 24 to 26, they will be showcasing the best of the purebreds from the country and all over Asia Pacific at the 2012 Fédération Cynologique Internationale Asia and Pacific Section Show at the SMX Convention Center, Mall of Asia Complex. Judges will be coming in from Singapore, Hong Kong, Finland, Columbia, and more.
