article_terminal-fee-poll.jpgDepartment of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) secretary Mar Roxas announced that, effective August 1, 2012, the terminal fee for domestic flights will be included in air fare. Currently, passengers flying out to local destinations pay the terminal fee upon arriving at the airport.

"This means there will be one less queue at the airport for our passengers," Roxas said.

The DOTC also has plans of implementing the scheme at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in the near future. Roxas shared that a software system funded by the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) is being set up so that air fares charged by airlines could be bundled with the terminal fee.

Do you think this a good idea, FNites? Take our poll, and share your thoughts on this development!

Poll Question:

Do you think it’s a good idea to include the terminal fee in the price of plane tickets?

  1. Yes. It means fewer lines and less hassle when at a busy airport—I wish they would do it for international flights too.

  2. No. What if you cancel your flight? You’ll have paid the terminal fee for nothing.

  3. I don’t see why they’re charging a terminal fee at all. They’re obviously not using the money for facilities like CCTV cameras and other features.

that would be good. it would help the airline perform its duties well while lessening such process that hassles every passengers. Nice move of the DOTC and of Sec. Mar Roxas.

if i remember correctly..different airport terminals have different terminals fee. Manila and Cebu airports charge about Php200 for theirs, others charge less. If this is implement, would it mean airport terminal fee would be a single value for all, regardless of where the airport is located?
