P-Noy deprioritizes the RH Bill; Sen. Pia Cayetano says this indicates an indecisive leadership. Do you agree?

rh_bill_deprioritized_article2.jpgAlthough the Reproductive Health (RH) Bill has garnered a lot of support, especially over the past year, Malacañang announced earlier this week that the bill would no longer be included in its list of priority measures. In defense of the decision not to recommend the RH Bill for prioritization in Congress this year, presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda was quoted on Inquirer.net as saying, “We are not pushing, we are not introducing the bill until after we finish the dialogue with the bishops.”

Pro-RH Bill proponents have already begun to express their disappointment and anger at this exclusion, and among the most vocal was Sen. Pia Cayetano. The senator, one of the RH Bill’s staunchest advocates, was quoted as saying that this decision “indicates a leadership that is indecisive and vulnerable to pressure,” PhilStar.com reports .

She went on to say that "what was worse was that President (Noynoy Aquino) pulled out the RH Bill from the list of priority bills at a time when the congressional hearings are about to be concluded and the plenary debates would commence. . . . This will be a true test of the political will of this administration, as well as the President’s sincerity and conviction."

But the senator and Womanity Awards finalist for Public Service was not the only person to share her opinion about this move. Spot.PH quotes Elizabeth Angsioco, chair of the Democratic Socialist Women of the Philippines (DSWP) and Womanity Awards finalist for Advocacy, as saying, "(The administration's move) is not only anti-women, but also anti-poor. (The President) is betraying the millions of Filipinos who voted for him because he made a pact that he will listen to them. The RH bill was a campaign promise under his social contract with the Filipino people."

And as the news has spread, so has the public outcry.

“I'm utterly disappointed but not surprised,” Lea Salonga, singer, actress, Womanity Awards finalist for the Arts, and RH Bill advocate tweeted earlier today.

Model and Showtime judge Georgina Wilson shared her feelings about the Palace’s decision via Twitter as well: “Noynoy what are you doing? The RH bill was a campaign promise to the Filipino people. So disappointing. You let us down, again. :(”

Iza Calzado, the star of the recently concluded TV series Beauty Queen and Womanity Awards finalist for Entertainment, also tweeted her disappointment: “I wish Pnoy would support the RHbill :( there are already too many People in our country and we are too poor to keep producing more ppl,” to which SNN TV host Bianca Gonzalez replied, “I wish for that too.”

What’s your say on the Palace’s decision to deprioritize the RH Bill? Take our poll to share your opinion!

Poll Question:
P-Noy deprioritizes the RH Bill; Sen. Pia Cayetano says this "indicates a leadership that is indecisive and vulnerable to pressure." Do you agree?
  1. Yes! The RH Bill has been unresolved too long, and in the meantime, more women have had their health compromised because the measures proposed aren’t available.
  2. Yes, although I’m not so sure about everything proposed by the bill, it seems like P-Noy is bowing to the Church’s pressure and not delivering on his promises.
  3. No. I think P-Noy is actually showing strength in holding out against the pressure from the pro-RH Bill people to stand by his own beliefs.
  4. No. I don’t think the bill should be passed at all, and the longer P-Noy has to think about it, the more he’ll realize this.
  5. I don’t know. Perhaps he really wants more time to deliberate on this issue.

Pnoy at age 50 is still immature just like his decision in buying an imported car when all the citizen are feeling the high price of transportation. Even the latest issue about Taiwan. He's trying to sacrifice the OFW for his pride. He doesn't weight what his decision will cost the country

P-NOy is not a good Leader, and good thing I didn't voted for him. The type of Leadership he is portraying is the Democratic Type. Although we are a Democratic country. Our President is not a man of his words.

I used to support the RH Bill but not anymore. I used to believe that women must have a right over their own body, and that we are heading for a population time bomb, which is why we need to control our population growth. However, the arguments put forward by Lagman are mere apologetics lacking in basis- i believe he wants a piece of that money meant for contraceptives--- but that's another story.. Anyway... Who is to say that a pregnancy is unwanted... The parents? Of course not. The moment a pregnancy is deemed unwanted, then the child is unwanted...The moment we as parents obtain for ourselves the right to decide which child lives or does not live means that we are playing God, which we obviously are not. We don't and cannot control our bodies, no matter how much technology we apply. Sex and Pregnancy is a sacred thing, and thus can no longer practice it for the sarap alone, which, sadly, is what many women's magazines would like us to think. i used to think that way thats why i used to have a drawer full of condoms them for my BFs to use. Now, i believe that sex is sacred, and its use reserved for LOVE alone. We only have one child without practicing any form of family planning, natural or otherwise. Likewise, i reviewed the statistics which point to a lowering population growth rate which i feel will continue... Sorry, we need a better RH Bill than the one presently proposed. Restricting the population for outdated arguments and risking social unrest is irresponsible.

The homily by the priest a while ago was regarding RH bill and I now understand why the Catholic church is against it.Supporting the RH bill is saying we are against life and we are playing Gods again to decide who among us would live or to die. It is an act of being a true Christian to trust and believe that when a human being is born, it is according to God's purpose here on earth. A lot of problems on Earth, if not all, were created because we believe that we, humans, are under control which in fact we are not. We wanted it OUR way, not GOD's way.The government should not be spending billions of money for contraceptives but for the creation of jobs that would make jobless people productive. I respect P-noy for his decision. His decision says that he is a leader who listens to his conscience, and respects the right of any human being to live and is not blinded by popularity ( or money) as the supporters of RH bill could be.

I'm not disappointed at all. That's exactly what I expected Aquino to do. He's not exactly known to be a smart man or a man of action. The only thing he's known for is his lineage. Oh, and his sister. That's about it. So let's not expect greatness from him. He's really trying to do a good job. Sadly, the poor man's efforts are never going to be good enough.

No. Pnoy in fact shows strength of character, maturity, flexibility in making decisions only after listening to the pros and cons of the bill and taking on the leader's responsibility for his decision.

tama nga naman si Pnoy, dapat lang na i deprioritize ang decision as far as the RH Bill is concerned, kasi mas marami ang dapat i prioritize na issues, if possible nga eh, drop the RHBill issue, kasi lahat tayo ay kawawa pag na approved 'yan, the good as well.

Upon hearing much dfft opinions from print and broadcast media,RhBill complies and it should be mandatory especially third world countries i.e. RP and passing the said bill perhaps not all the content but further editing on the part of the author and why not consider the majority of the Peoples votes:

The hardest thing for Pnoy is:he doesnt have the guts to decide for himself even thorough understanding perhaps of the said bill is beyond his concern he always rely on his people in the senate where it looks like he was manipulated by dfft opinion yet uncertain of everything that only shows "to be a rule model you should start by itself" and how hell be going to do that since even his personal life he cant even decide which leap to turn (Man/woman :)))

Wake up Mr Aquino your not here to show your parent's image"create your own rainbow"!!!
