On December 2, 2012, more than 13,000 runners gathered in Pasay City for the Nike We Run MNL 10K. The annual event is part of Nike's We Run race movement, a global campaign that connects 395,500 runners from 32 cities all over the world.
“We are thrilled to bring the Nike We Run race back to the Philippines, and were overwhelmed with the tremendous support shown by its local running community. Witnessing a wave of more than 13,000 runners stretched across Seaside Boulevard is remarkable knowing that Filipinos, especially the youth, are committed to an active lifestyle. With our innovations and the Nike+ running community, we hope that the Filipino runners continue motivating and inspiring each other to be the best runners they can be,” says Sanjay Gangopadhyay, Marketing Director of Nike South Eastasia.
But while the 10k run was the highlight of the event, the festivities continued after the marathon, as bands and various booths provided entertainment for the runners. In attendance was international star Apl.de.Ap, who gave a performance onstage. Bands such as Chicosci, Never the Strangers, and Sponge Cola also revved up the crowd for an early morning adrenaline rush.
